Man (30s) remains in hospital with burn injuries after dousing incident in Dublin 8

Gardaí attend scene of a serious public order incident in Inchicore on Wednesday

A man believed to have been doused in an accelerant and set alight after intervening in a teenage fight remains in a serious condition in hospital.

The incident which is thought to have involved approximately six males occurred at Thornton Heights in Inchicore, Dublin 8 at about 5.15pm on Wednesday.

Garda are investigating a line of inquiry that a fight between the youths attracted the attention of the victim, who is aged in his 30s.

However, when he attempted to intervene, the youths sprayed some form of liquid on him and set him on fire. No arrests are thought to have been made so far but the investigation is ongoing.

Gardaí previously issued a statement outlining reports of a serious public order incident involving a group of males.

During the incident, a male in his 30s suffered serious burn injuries, they said. He was brought to St James’s Hospital for treatment.

A number of scenes were preserved for technical examination and Gardaí issued an appeal for assistance.

They are particularly interested in anyone with video recordings of the incident, or any road users who were in the Thornton Heights area of Inchicore between 5pm to 6pm and who may have video or dash-cam footage.
