Kerry hoteliers John and Francis Brennan, of Park Hotel Kenmare, are offering to help hotels avoid turning into Fawlty Towers.

Do You Really Know Your Business?, Are You a Busy Fool? and Breakfast: Your Best Opportunity are among the seminars at two residential courses, on April 11th-13th and 18th-20th. They will also include sessions on marketing and operating costs and a talk by Irish Timesjournalist Denis Staunton, who will give a view of Ireland from abroad. "Very often, operators get cocooned and blinkered in their daily routine and find themselves without a plan or direction," says John Brennan, who is responsible for the day-to-day running of the five-star hotel. "This course is designed to give them the enlightenment to see new opportunities in their business and make it a compelling product to attract profitable business in these difficult times." The courses, which are based around two nights at the hotel, cost €295 per head.
