Golfers splash out by the sea in Waterford

GOLFERS can splash out at the Cliff House Hotel in Ardmore, Co Waterford

GOLFERS can splash out at the Cliff House Hotel in Ardmore, Co Waterford. Its recently installed floating green by the water, above, is about 100m from the tee box – and there have already been two holes in one this season.

Golfers might want to watch out for passing kayakers or fishermen – but they don’t need worry about plastic in the sea. The hotel imports fish friendly golf balls that dissolve in the sea and contain fish food, so there’s no pollution.

Cliff House has been winning good reviews since it opened in 2008, because of its great cliffside location and great food from chef Martin Kajuiter, amongst other things. Now it’s been named a 2011 Fodor’s Choice by Fodor’s Travel for the south-east of Ireland.

And a cocktail bar has just opened in its its sister hotel, the Cliff Town House on St Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2. That’s also where its Cliff Bar Academy is based, running two-day to two-week course for would-be bartenders (see thecliffbaracademy.com).
