Fire brigade attended fire at house in Drumcondra early on Monday

A man has died in hospital after a house fire in Dublin early on Monday.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the fire in Drumcondra in the early hours of Monday morning, a Garda spokesperson said.

Dublin fire brigade removed a man, aged in his late fifties, from the house about 2.45am and he was taken to the Mater Hospital with serious burn injuries, the spokesperson said.

“He later passed away. A post-mortem will take place at a later date,” it was stated.

The spokesperson said a number of other residents from the house managed to evacuate the house and were uninjured. Investigations are ongoing, he said.

In a post on Twitter, Dublin Fire Brigade expressed its sympathies to the man’s family, friends and neighbours.

It stated: “A man has died following a fire in his home in Drumcondra overnight. Despite best efforts of firefighters and advanced paramedics on scene, he passed away in hospital. A number of people self-rescued. Our thoughts are with the man’s family, friends and neighbours.”
