This award-winning title could easily be a game of the week. Waking up in a crumbling room, your job is to defeat The Calamity, an organisation that has turned a peaceful world into a chaotic, dark place. Piece by piece you must rebuild your peaceful bastion by travelling to increasingly dangerous places. Survival is key here, as an army of strange creatures (imagine gaseous vermin and mutated variations on cowboy villains) stand between you and your goals. Your weapons range from a six-shooter to a mallet to a shield. Bastionhas a singular look – a dash of Manga, a dollop of western, a dose of steam- punk. The graphics, which resemble water-coloured animation, are busy but pretty. As well as some fast-paced third-person combat, the sci-fi story is effective, and its tone is endearingly sombre. We also dig that gravelly voiceover!
