Brown Bag Films founder to speak at Science Gallery

Last year, 100 million children watched TV shows made by Brown Bag Films in Dublin's very own Smithfield. Want to know how the animation studio went from start-up to global leader in toddler entertainment? Then don't miss co-founder Cathal Gaffney this Wednesday, who'll be sharing the secrets of Brown Bag's success at Trinity's Science Gallery.

Cathal founded Brown Bag more than 20 years ago with Darragh O'Connor, and in that time the studio has produced 17 TV series, including an incredible line-up of award-winning children's programmes. Two of these, Give Up Yer Aul Sins and Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty, were nominated for Oscars.

It has also produced five of the top 10 pre-school shows in the world: Doc McStuffins; the Emmy-winning Peter Rabbit; Octonauts; Henry Hugglemonster; and one of their most recent productions, Bing, made for BBC's CBeebies.

On Wednesday, Cathal will be speaking as part of the “First Up” series of talks with creative entrepreneurs, and he’ll be focusing on where Brown Bag is now, as well as the story of their journey from “very basic beginnings” to international success. The company employs 160 full-time staff in Dublin, and has a second office in Los Angeles. It also recently opened a 2D studio in Manchester and is currently recruiting 40 people for this facility.
