Two women remanded in custody on trafficking and money laundering charges

Two women have been remanded in custody after appearing before Dublin District Court charged with human trafficking, organised prostitution and money laundering.

The women, who are aged in their 30s and 40s, and cannot be named for legal reasons, were arrested on Monday.

They appeared before Judge Gráinne Malone at Dublin District Court on Saturday.

Det Sgt Garda Alan Lynch objected to bail for the woman in her 30s, citing “grave concerns” about the seriousness and gravity of the case, the belief she would immediately regress to criminality and flight risk.

Requesting bail, John O’Leary said his client was not a flight risk. He said she had no previous convictions and was willing to abide by any bail conditions.

The Judge refused bail for the woman, saying the “nature and seriousness” of the charges “speak for themselves”.

The second woman made no application for bail on Saturday.

Following the hearing, both women were remanded in custody to appear before the court again on Friday, July 9th.
