The poets Seamus Heaney and Michael Longley and the artist Anne Madden have become patrons of Burrenbeo Trust (www.burrenbeo.com). The trust, which will be launched by the naturalist David Bellamy at Burren College of Art, Co Clare, on Friday at 7.30pm, will promote self-sustaining conservation and development in the Burren.

Faro fares

From April 30th next year travellers from the west will be able to fly to Faro, in Portugal, from Ireland West Airport (www.irelandwest airport.com), in Co Mayo. Panorama and Sunworld will run a weekly charter.
