THE SOCIAL NETWORK: The Jameson Dublin International Film Festival got under way on Thursday evening with the Irish premiere of the movie Broken at the Savoy Cinema on O'Connell Street. The actors Cillian Murphy and Tim Roth were among the stars at the event.

Meanwhile, the Mansion House is being turned into the LA police department next Thursday for a Jameson Cult Film Club screening of LA Confidential followed by an onstage QA with Danny DeVito.

When DeVito was here to promote his film Matilda in the mid 1990s he tracked down his relations. His great-great-grandfather was born in Catilaco, in Italy, and left for the United States; a brother arrived in Ireland and opened the DiVito ice-cream parlour on O’Connell Street.

“It is a great honour to welcome Danny DeVito to the festival,” said the festival director, Gráinne Humphreys. “I really admire him. It’s impossible to think about Danny DeVito without smiling, and if that is the gift the festival gives to Dublin audiences, I will be very happy.”
