THE SOCIAL NETWORK:TV3's Karen Koster received unusual advice during Ladies' Day at the Dublin Horse Show in the RDS on Thursday. "Somebody just told me that when people stop toasting your engagement, it's time to start planning the wedding."

The Xposé presenter plans to marry her fiancé, John Maguire, next summer. The couple got engaged in July. Sybil Mulcahy, her colleague at TV3, has been spending lots of time in Co Wicklow since giving birth to baby Michael four months ago. She will return to The Morning Show at the end of October.

Just before the winners of the Best Dressed competitions were announced, the heavens opened and RTÉ weather presenter Nuala Carey caused quite a stir when she unfurled her umbrella. The judges – broadcasters Brendan Courtney and Lucy Kennedy, and fashion designer Sorcha O’Raghallaigh – deemed Mark Flood, from Shankill but living in Newbridge, the best-dressed man. He was a walking advertisement for Hackett; but, then again, he works for the retailer. Lucy Gilmore-Murphy, a milliner from Co Wicklow, won best-dressed lady.

Who we spotted:Norah Casey; Irish chef d'équipe Robert Splaine Virginia Macari; designer Sean Byrne; auctioneer Ian Whyte.
