Well done to the Laois Nationalistfor finding that all-important local angle in a hot national news story. Much was made recently of a cheeky new website that invites people to rate politicians' sex appeal. The newspaper consulted sexytd.com and told its readers, "Sean Fleming has topped the poll as Laois's most attractive representative in Dáil Éireann".
Reporter Enda Dowling then broke the bad news that Fleming comes in 85th out of 166 TDs. However, he still outranked his county colleagues Brian Stanley (Sinn Féin) and Charlie Flanagan (Fine Gael), who came in 115th and 120th.
Fleming told the newspaper he was “suitably impressed” with his showing in the sexiness league.
Flanagan, the chairman of the Fine Gael parliamentary party, sounded a bit miffed. “I have never heard of the website. I have never seen the website and I have absolutely no interest in it.”
Stanley said, “To be blunt, I have no interest. I am elected to give a voice to the people of Laois and Offaly, and I will represent accordingly,” before adding, “It is only a bit of a laugh, and not to be taken too seriously.”
So they won’t be interested in knowing that they have since overtaken Fianna Fáil’s midland Adonis. Flanagan is now 77th, Stanley is 117th and Fleming is in last place at 138. That’s a bit daft.
